Billie Jane Hermosura, PhD, RD

Billie Jane Hermosura is a registered dietitian, researcher, and nutrition educator currently based in Ottawa, Ontario. Billie Jane started her career as a dietitian over 15 years ago in Toronto as a clinical dietitian working with weight management and surgical weight loss clients. She established a private practice in 2007 and continues to work with clients across Canada. Billie Jane has taught senior-level university courses in nutrition, including sports nutrition and chronic disease management, and has supervised dietetic interns and graduate-level practicum students.

Billie Jane moved to Ottawa to start her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in health professions education at the University of Ottawa. Billie Jane has a Master of Applied Nutrition degree from the University of Guelph (Ontario) and a Master of Adult Education from St. Francis Xavier University (Nova Scotia). She has earned the prestigious Diploma in Sports Nutrition from the International Olympic Committee and completed the Low FODMAP Diet Certificate from Monash University. She has also developed her skills in learning experience design through OISE University of Toronto to better create learning opportunities for specific audiences. To further enhance her professional practice, Billie Jane has also taken advanced training in cognitive behavioural therapy and motivational interviewing. There is no doubt Billie Jane is committed and passionate about helping individuals and groups meet their nutrition and health goals.

Billie Jane’s skills go beyond nutrition and wellness. In addition, Billie Jane completed her PhD focusing on competency development and leadership. Her research focused on the health professions however, she has been able to leverage her expertise and apply it in other public sectors. She is a passionate educator, committed to ensuring clients and learners are well-supported to achieve their goals.

To complement her dietetic and research skill set, she is a Project Management Professional (PMP) with over 15 years of experience as a project manager and program evaluation specialist. She has led several system-wide projects in three health authorities in British Columbia, Ontario, and in the private health sector. Not only does Billie Jane achieve results, she is skilled at building coalitions and contributing to systems transformation.


HER FITNESS COMMUNITY

Billie Jane relies on her fitness community to keep her motivated, accountable and smiling on a day-to-day basis. Exercise and fitness have always been important in her life with her recreational athletic roots in triathlons. Billie Jane enjoys CrossFit, masters swimming, spinning, and going for long distance runs.

Billie Jane has experienced first-hand how nutrition plays a huge role in seeing improvements in her strength and endurance capabilities, and has a passion for helping other active individuals do the same.
